Get ready to kick start your 2015 with the return of the Workplace Challenge!
By combining thoroughly modern internet and smartphone technology with good old-fashioned workplace camaraderie, Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) believes even the most reluctant exercisers in the region will be able to stay motivated to maintain their healthy resolutions for 2015.
Last month, the Department of Health set out its ambition to use digital technology and innovation to revolutionise how individuals manage their own health and wellbeing. Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport is backing this vision by embracing the new year, new you spirit and are urging workers across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to kickstart their healthy resolutions by getting together with colleagues and signing up for Workplace Challenge's 'My Team 2015' eight week challenge.
The 'My Team 2015' electronic leaderboards went live on www.workplacechallenge.org.uk/lrsport this week, as workers return to work after the festive break. This marks the start of eight weeks of activity-fuelled competition between colleagues and workplaces as workforces come together to battle it out for the top slot on the new 'My Team 2015' leaderboard.
Participants will use Workplace Challenge's online activity logger and new iPhone app to record all of their physical activity alongside friends, colleagues and other workplaces.
The more physical activity workers take part in, the more points they earn for their place of work. The workplace with the highest number of points will then be crowned Leicester-Shire & Rutland's Workplace Challenge winner at the end of the 8 week Challenge. You can sign up at any time to take part and back date your activity entries.
John Byrne, Director from Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport said: "With everyone returning to work with great intentions for the year ahead, January is the perfect time to come together with colleagues and introduce some healthy habits into your working week.
However, our ambitions for 'My Team 2015' at Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport go far beyond simply supporting New Year's resolutions; it's about introducing lasting healthy habits into the working week. The support and social banter of exercising with colleagues is a great way to not only make getting active more enjoyable, but also to push yourself to remain committed to your healthy goals."
Nicky Morgan, MP for Loughborough and Parliamentary Sport Champion, is working partnership with Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS), to enhance opportunities for people of all ages to stay physically active. Nicky said: "I am delighted to support this year's Workplace Challenge. It is a great way to support a healthy lifestyle in the workplace. I know from last year's activities, this scheme has been a great success. It is a great way to keep to those New Year's resolutions!"
